At CNC, our commitment to slow fashion and sustainability starts with the materials we choose. Unlike many of our competitors who source their fabrics overseas and then construct garments locally in LA, we take a different approach.
For us, it’s not just about being "Made in LA"; it’s about ensuring that every part of our process, from fabric to final garment, reflects our dedication to quality, sustainability, and ethical practices.
Locally Milled Cotton in Los Angeles
All of our cotton is milled right here in Los Angeles. This allows us to have complete control over the quality and weight of our fabrics, ensuring they meet our high standards. We use a heavyweight cotton combed back fleece for our hoodies and sweats, providing an extra plush feel with a substantial 480gsm (grams per square meter). For our t-shirts, we’ve chosen a heavy-weight ultra-fine jersey cotton at 250gsm with 20/1 singles, giving them that perfect, premium feel.
Why Local Milling Matters
By milling our cotton locally, we avoid the pitfalls of mass-produced overseas fabrics and reduce our carbon footprint. This practice allows us to support local industries and guarantees that every piece of fabric we use is ethically produced. Additionally, our custom mills ensure that we achieve the exact weight and texture that define the CNC quality—something that simply isn’t possible with mass-market fabrics.
Our Unique Dyeing Process
We take it a step further by keeping all our cotton in its natural white form after milling. This decision allows us to meet the minimum yardage requirements while maintaining flexibility in color. Once our bulk fabric is cut into the necessary patterns, we take these cutouts to a garment dye house, also located in Los Angeles.
Sustainable Garment Dyeing in LA
One of the standout aspects of our dyeing process is its sustainability. We adhere to California's strict water laws and utilize recycled rainwater for dyeing, which minimizes our environmental impact. This eco-friendly approach means that our fabrics undergo rigorous quality assurance checks before we even begin sewing and constructing the final garment. Every piece that leaves our production line not only reflects the CNC commitment to craftsmanship but also ensures that it aligns with sustainable practices.
By choosing CNC, you’re not just purchasing a garment; you're investing in a product that has been thoughtfully and ethically crafted from start to finish. We take pride in being transparent about our process, and we're excited to share this journey with you as we continue to redefine what it means to be a truly LA-made brand.
